5P62:J0NRED-01-A
B&R Automation manufactures the 5P62:J0NRED-01-A industrial controller within the 5PC Industrial Automation Units series. The unit serves as a central processing platform that hosts fieldbus interfaces, local I/O, and visualization hardware, allowing a machine to coordinate motion, safety, and process control tasks from a single enclosure on the factory floor. Its modular backplane accepts dedicated option cards, so the hardware can be adapted for drives, robotics, and high-speed data acquisition. By combining control, communication, and expansion capability in one cabinet-mounted platform, the controller supports compact automation layouts without separating those functions across multiple devices.
Primary power is supplied at 24 VDC (±25%), a range that tolerates common line variations from battery-backed or switched-mode supplies. At startup, the controller briefly draws 40 A (<300 µs), so the upstream supply must support this inrush without tripping. Two integrated Ethernet connectors share an internal switch and move cyclic or diagnostic traffic at a maximum rate of 100 Mbit/s. The motherboard exposes 5 PCI slots running on a 33 MHz bus, and these accept motion cards, fieldbus masters, or proprietary expansions without external cabling. Should input power drop, onboard capacitors keep the logic alive for 10 ms, which gives the CPU time to store variables and signal a controlled shutdown to the network.
The housing carries a protection rating of IP20, so it is intended for installation inside a cabinet with filtered airflow. Legacy serial communication is handled by two RS-232 ports that can transmit or receive data at up to 115 kbit/s, making them suitable for barcode readers and weight scales. Two front-panel USB connections provide 2 USB 2.0 Type A sockets for removable media or license dongles, and the front access helps keep peripheral connections easy to reach during normal operation. A rigid chassis withstands operating shocks of 15 g (11 ms), which helps maintain signal integrity in mobile or vibration-prone applications. This combination of protected cabinet use, serial connectivity, USB access, and shock resistance makes the controller suitable for demanding industrial environments where stable operation is required.
