Indramat TVM Power Supplies

Indramat TVM

The TVM 2.4 power supply serves multiple functions within the system. Firstly, it rectifies the three-phase AC mains voltage to generate DC high voltage essential for the operation of the drives. Additionally, in generator mode, any regenerated power is absorbed by a bleeder resistor integrated into the TVM 2.4. To ensure stable power delivery, a buffer capacitance is employed to provide sufficient smoothing. Furthermore, the TVM 2.4 distributes power to the electronics of the drive module via a wire ribbon cable. Its built-in monitoring functions play a crucial role in system operation, as they extensively communicate with drive modules through the signal bus voltage. Notably, the Bb1 contact holds significance for system readiness, acting as a prerequisite for power activation, as power can only be switched on when this contact is closed.

Notable Features

  • Simple and problem-free voltage matching: An autotransformer can typically adapt the mains voltage to the connection voltage, ensuring compatibility.
  • Fuse protection with circuit breakers: Utilizes circuit breakers for fuse protection, eliminating the need for expensive semiconductor fuses. Additionally, no special fuses are required for export purposes.
  • Energy storage capability: Additional capacitance allows for the storage of drive energy, minimizing heat losses and energy consumption, particularly during braking.
  • Braking synchronous drives: Capable of braking synchronous drives to standstill in the event of mains failure or electronic drive issues using a dynamic brake.
  • High load capabilities of control voltage: The control voltage can handle high loads, enabling the connection of six or more drives to a single supply module.
  • Monitoring of all drive components: The TVM drive monitors all components, with the ready contact of the TVM 2.4 promptly shutting off power in case of malfunction.
  • Ease of servicing: LED displays in the TVM 2.4 facilitate easy fault finding and clearance, enhancing serviceability.

Characteristics

The TVM drives have the following characteristics:

  • Power Supply: Designed primarily to power servo drives with a continuous mechanical output of up to 4.1 kW. For AC power applications, the line voltage can be adjusted to the TVM's connection voltage using an autotransformer. The line input does not need semiconductor fuses thanks to protection from circuit breakers or fuses.
  • Regenerated Energy: In generator mode, energy produced by the drives is absorbed by a bleeder resistor. To augment continuous and peak regenerated power, the TVM can be paired with the TBM 1.2 auxiliary bleeder module.
  • Auxiliary Capacitance Modules: These modules can be connected to store energy in the DC bus circuit when braking occurs, allowing the energy to be later used for acceleration. The system's design minimizes heat loss and energy consumption, with each module storing approximately 30 Ws of energy in auxiliary capacitance.
  • Dynamic Braking: This safety feature enables motors with a permanent magnet field to be dynamically braked if a fault is detected in the drive electronic system or in the system's feedback line. Activation is through the TVM's ready-state contact (Bb), prompting the drives to brake to a halt.
