The Pacific Scientific 5645-027 is a stepper motor drive designed to convert step and direction inputs into motor winding currents, effectively controlling a bipolar two-phase step motor. This device is equipped with a bipolar chopper drive operating at a frequency of 20 kHz, as well as short circuit and shunt regulator circuitry for safety and voltage regulation. It also provides optical isolation for the direction, step, enable and reset command lines while its mid-range instability control unit eliminates torque loss and reduces motor stalling. The 5645-027 affords a step range from ½ to 1/125 coupled with up to 25,000 revolutions and the stepper is a standard 1.8o unit capable of full stepping or micro-stepping. Other key features include idle current reduction, which cuts down the motor winding current by 50%, and a current setting, which sets the current supplied by the motor.
