The Beckhoff BK5151 from the BK EtherCAT Bus Couplers series is a high-performance EtherCAT bus coupler designed for seamless integration into industrial automation networks. With a compact form factor weighing only approx. 100 g, it supports up to 64 bus terminals (expandable to 255 with K-bus extension) and offers automatic data transfer rates up to 1 Mbaud. Powered by a 24 V DC (-15%/+20%) supply, the BK5151 ensures reliable operation across a wide temperature range, making it ideal for real-time control applications where rapid, synchronized data exchange is critical.
The BK5151 features a robust D-sub 9-pin socket bus interface and accommodates 16 Tx/Rx PDOs for efficient fieldbus communication. It supports multiple PDO modes—including synchron, cyclic, event driven, and polling—to adapt to diverse network architectures. Data integrity is maintained through a screened, twisted copper cable (2 × signal, 1 × ground recommended), while built-in CANopen management functions—life, node guarding, emergency object, variable mapping, and store/restore—provide enhanced network monitoring and fault recovery. Configuration is streamlined via an integrated serial interface, and a dedicated current supply for the K-bus delivers 1750 mA for sustained operation even under heavy load.
Engineered for durability, the BK5151 operates reliably between –25…+60 °C and can be stored from –40…+85 °C, ensuring resilience in harsh industrial environments. Six diagnostic LEDs (2 × power supply, 2 × K-bus, 2 × fieldbus) offer clear visual feedback for rapid troubleshooting and status monitoring.
