BK5200
The Beckhoff BK5200 from the BK EtherCAT Bus Coupler Series is a high-performance interface module manufactured by Beckhoff designed to bridge EtherCAT communication with modular terminal I/O systems. Featuring a bus interface with 1 x open pluggable 5-pin connector and a fieldbus capacity of 512 byte input and 512 byte output, the BK5200 supports up to 512 digital and 256 analog peripheral signals for versatile signal management. Its primary function is to enable reliable, high-speed data exchange between an EtherCAT master and distributed I/O modules in industrial automation environments.
In terms of technical specifications, the BK5200 accommodates 64 bus terminals to facilitate system expansion and integrates configurable data transfer rates via an intuitive dip switch arrangement. It supplies a continuous K-bus current of 1750 mA and maintains an input current requirement of 70 mA + (total K-bus current)/4, max. 500 mA. The device’s power contacts handle up to 24 V DC / max. 10 A, with a recommended fuse rating of «≤ 10 A» and a start current of approximately «2.5 × continuous current». Multiple operating modes—bit strobe, polling, cyclic, and Change-of-State (COS)—ensure adaptability to dynamic control scenarios.
Additional features include on-the-fly configuration via KS2000 software or directly through the controller, enhancing setup flexibility. The screened twisted copper data transfer medium with an included 5-pin connector ensures robust signal integrity and immunity in compliance with EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-6-4 standards. The BK5200 operates on a supply voltage of 24 V DC (-15%/+20%) through an 11–25 V bus cable, providing efficient and stable power delivery. In industrial applications, the BK5200 offers exceptional durability, precise signal handling, and seamless integration, delivering measurable improvements in system reliability and performance.
