178B1485
The 178B1485 decentralized drive is produced by Danfoss as part of the FCD 300 Micro Drives series. Installed close to the motor, it regulates speed and torque in processing applications where compact control hardware is preferred over centralized cabinets. By integrating power electronics and fieldbus communication in a single IP-rated housing, the unit eases wiring and supports flexible machine layouts on production lines.
This model accepts a three-phase input of 3x380-480 V, allowing direct operation on common industrial mains without an isolation transformer. Its motor output is rated at 0.75 kW, which corresponds to a mechanical shaft capability of 1.0 HP; both values define the maximum continuous load the converter can deliver. For harsh wash-down zones, the housing carries an IP66 rating that blocks dust ingress and high-pressure water jets. Profibus networking is embedded through Profibus DP V0/V1 12 Mbaud, giving the controller cyclic and acyclic data exchange with PLCs. The standard polyester coating resists routine moisture and chemical exposure on processing lines, while the absence of a local display delegates parameter access to the fieldbus or a remote tool.
An integral EMC stage is provided through the 1 A RFI filter, letting the installation meet conducted emission limits without external components. The hardware is designated “extended with brake,” so dynamic braking energy can be dissipated internally instead of feeding back to the mains. Because there is no display, status and diagnostics are read over the network or through indicator LEDs, reducing potential failure points on the housing front. Wiring is simplified further by no terminal box; motor, mains, and control leads enter through sealed cable glands rather than a removable cover. Together these features support decentralized mounting in conveyor drives, mixers, and other equipment that must remain operational inside wet or contaminated processing areas.
