EL5002
The Beckhoff EL5002 terminal is a high-performance interface module from the EL EtherCAT Terminals series by Beckhoff. This dual-channel encoder interface supports two independent channels for incremental encoders via RS-422 differential signals (D+, D–, Cl+, Cl–). Designed for high-speed, high-precision position data acquisition, the EL5002 excels in motion control applications requiring fast, reliable feedback.
The EL5002 offers a data transfer rate of up to 1 MHz (250 kHz default) and supports serial input widths up to 32 bit (24 bit default). Its distributed clocks feature ensures deterministic timing across the EtherCAT network. Encoder connections are powered by an external source (e.g., EL91xx), while the terminal itself is supplied with 24 V via power contacts and draws only typ. 130 mA from the E-bus. Differential (RS-422) pulse output signals guarantee noise-immune data transmission in harsh industrial environments.
Built for durability, the EL5002 operates from –25 °C to +60 °C and can be stored between –40 °C and +85 °C. It carries major approvals including CE, CCC, UL, ATEX, and IECEx, with an Ex marking of ATEX II 3 G Ex ec IIC T4 Gc; IECEx Ex ec IIC T4 Gc for safe use in explosive atmospheres. The compact, rugged design ensures reliable, synchronized real-time feedback in demanding industrial systems, enhancing precision, efficiency, and overall automation performance.
