LC3100
The Beckhoff LC3100 Low Cost Bus Coupler from the LC Bus Couplers series delivers a compact, cost-effective interface for digital I/O networks in industrial automation. This module supports up to 64 bus terminals and provides 256 digital peripheral signals, making it ideal for small to medium-sized control architectures. Weighing only approx. 100 g and enclosed in an IP20 protection class housing, the LC3100 combines lightweight design with reliable dust protection. Its streamlined footprint and straightforward spring-loaded terminals enable rapid installation and ease of maintenance. As a dedicated digital I/O coupler, the LC3100 omits analog peripheral signals, reducing configuration complexity and improving system predictability.
The LC3100’s technical specifications underpin its robust performance in demanding environments. It operates on a 24 VDC (-15%/+20%) power supply and requires a recommended maximum 10 A fuse for upstream protection. Communication is achieved via a fieldbus link at a baud rate of up to 12 Mbaud, with a maximum of 32 bytes transmitted simultaneously for inputs and outputs. The device draws an input current of 70 mA plus one-fourth of the total K-bus current, up to 200 mA, while the integrated K-bus current capacity of 500 mA powers attached terminals reliably. Configuration is available through KS2000 configuration software or directly from the controller, enabling flexible deployment in varied automation systems.
In operation, the LC3100 delivers high-speed, deterministic data exchange with minimal latency. The spring-loaded terminals ensure vibration-resistant connections, suitable for production floors with mechanical stress. Ambient operating conditions range from 0°C to +55°C, ensuring consistent performance across temperature variations common in industrial settings. The absence of analog peripheral signals streamlines the firmware footprint and reduces I/O mapping errors, while the IP20 enclosure offers basic protection against solid contaminants. The device’s lightweight design minimizes DIN rail loading and simplifies panel layouts without sacrificing throughput.
System integration with Beckhoff’s automation platform is seamless: the LC3100 couples directly to the K-bus, interfacing with EtherCAT and other fieldbus masters for unified machine control. Its digital-only architecture targets applications such as discrete manufacturing lines, packaging machinery, and conveyor control systems where precise on/off signaling is critical. Compact dimensions and flexible configuration pathways make the LC3100 a practical choice for OEMs, machine builders, and retrofit projects seeking cost-effective expansion of digital I/O capacity.
