The S20-RS-UNI communication module by Bosch Rexroth Indramat, part of the S20 IndraControl Modules series, provides a robust serial interface solution for industrial automation networks. Designed for universal safety switching, this module offers a Type designation of Universal (UNI) Safety Switch with a rotary actuation method rated for Mechanical Endurance of 100,000 cycles. It operates at a Rated Operational Voltage of 400 V AC and mounts easily on panels or surfaces via its Mounting Type configuration. The housing is constructed of durable Enclosure Material thermoplastic and features Degree Of Protection IP65 to guard against dust and water ingress. Connections are achieved through reliable Electrical Connection screw terminals supporting 3 or 4 poles depending on configuration.

Delivering flexible serial communication, the S20-RS-UNI supports RS-232, RS-485, and RS-422 interfaces with configurable transmission speeds ranging from 110 bit/s to 250 kbit/s. The module accommodates 5 to 8 data bits, 1 or 2 stop bits, and employs protocols including Transparent, End-to-End, XON/XOFF, and Modbus RTU master for seamless data exchange. A 4 kB input buffer and 1 kB output buffer ensure reliable handling of asynchronous data flows, while the local bus interface operates at 100 Mbit/s over copper media. Electrical isolation is maintained with a 500 V AC test voltage separating the 5 V DC logic supply, functional earth ground, and I/O circuits. The module typically consumes 200 mA (max 240 mA) from the bus base module’s 5 V DC supply and integrates into PROFIBUS systems with 14 bytes of parameter data and 7 bytes for configuration.

Reliability is enhanced by compliance with Standards Compliance IEC 60947-3 and a Switching Capacity of 16 A, ensuring safe operation under variable load conditions.
