XE2-230-20
The Copley Controls XE2-230-20 drive is a high-performance digital loop module in the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series designed for demanding industrial automation tasks. This compact unit provides a robust continuous current of 10 Adc and supports peak current of 20 Adc over a peak time of 1 s, ensuring reliable operation under variable loads. With a universal mains voltage of 100~240 Vac, 50/60 Hz input and low inrush characteristics (20 Apeak @ 120 Vac and 40 Apeak @ 240 Vac), it adapts seamlessly to global power environments. The device’s lightweight design (1.90 kg) and compact footprint facilitate straightforward integration into tight control panels while delivering superior motion regulation.
The technical architecture of the XE2-230-20 integrates dual EtherCAT ports using the CAN application layer over EtherCAT (CoE) protocol for high-speed communication and precise synchronization across multiple axes. It meets stringent safety standards, boasting SIL 3, Category 3, and PL d compliance per IEC 61508-1, IEC 61508-2, IEC 61800-3, and SEMI F47-0706. The drive’s control power requirements are +24 Vdc, ±10%, and its mains current ratings are 18 Arms, single-phase or 14 Arms, three-phase. Physical dimensions are compact at 9.24 x 5.42 x 3.59 inches [234.7 x 137.6 x 91.1 mm], enabling installation in space-constrained machinery. The robust enclosure and internal heatsinking facilitate reliable operation across a broad thermal range.
Operational performance is underpinned by advanced digital control loops—current loop at 16 kHz sampling rate, and velocity & position loops at 4 kHz—for optimized torque response and minimal latency. The drive accommodates twisted, shielded conductors for signal and motor wiring, reducing electromagnetic interference in harsh industrial environments. During start-up, the controlled inrush current profile prevents nuisance tripping, while the 1 s peak current capability supports sudden load shifts and dynamic motion profiles. Continuous monitoring of internal diagnostics enables predictive maintenance and reduces unplanned downtime, further enhancing system availability and throughput.
System integration is streamlined through compatibility with the XENUS Plus architecture and a wide range of servo amplifiers and controllers from Copley Controls. The built-in EtherCAT interfaces facilitate daisy-chain topologies and real-time parameter tuning via standard fieldbus tools. This module is ideally suited for robotics, pick-and-place systems, semiconductor handling, and packaging machinery where precise motion control, compact size, and high reliability are paramount.
