The EK1521—an EtherCAT fibre optic junction—is a product by Beckhoff Automation, a pioneer in industrial automation solutions. The unit serves as a terminal on an I/O station, working alongside an EtherCAT Coupler like EK1100. Its function is translating Ethernet 100BASE-TX telegrams to 100BASE-FX glass fibre physics. The single-port device enables redundancy through fibre optics. It can be connected with EtherCAT terminals such as EK1501, over large distances up to 2 km. The device is self-sufficient and does not need configuration as it doesn't carry an EtherCAT ID. Users can monitor its operation status via two front-side LEDs. While the RUN LED indicates power, the Link LED relays communication status. The module draws power directly from the I/O station's coupler via the E-bus connection, consuming around 350 mA typically from the E-bus. It operates efficiently in temperatures ranging between 32 and 131 degrees Fahrenheit, and can be stored within -13 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit.
